The National Curriculum is divided into different levels. At Key Stage 1 the school
will send a report to parents indicating what level each pupil is working at. The level
will be based on teacher assessment and will take into account results from
national tasks and tests.
At Key Stages 2 and 3, the school will send a report indicating what National
Curriculum level each pupil has reached in the end of key stage tests and teacher assessments.
At the end of Key Stages 2 and 3 pupils will take national tests.
These tests are intended to indicate the level each pupil is working at, above or below the
target levels for their age, so that the right plans can be made for their future learning.
They also allow schools to see whether they are teaching effectively, by looking at their
pupils performance against national results.
The SATS test are taken each May, and are used to assess levelS as described above.
The tests are an important part of the curriculum, and provide a way in which a school can monitor
performance.
