At age 7 - Year 2, pupils take two English papers - a Level 2 paper, and a Level 1-3 paper.
At age 11, Year 6, pupils take the Level 3-5 English papers. There are three papers which are sat by children, a Reading paper, a Writing paper
(longer task), and a Writing paper (shorter task, and spelling test). The highest mark that can been achieved on this paper is a level 5.
At age 14, Year 9 (and in some schools, age 13 - Year 8), children will take three papers. Pupils sit a Reading paper, a Writing paper, and a
Shakespeare paper. There are three different Shakesapeare papers which can be sat, and pupils will only sit one of these papers, which will
depend upon the Shakespeare play chosen by the school at the beginning of the academic year. Pupils should be well versed with the play, as
the school should have shown pupils a DVD of the play, or perhaps taken pupils to the theatre to see the play. Pupils all sit the same Level
4-7 English papers at Key Stage 3.
